Blue Coat SG800 First Security Appliance to Win "World-Class Award" From Network World

Network World Cites Unique Port 80 Security Appliance as "Strong Performer" and "a Snap to Use"

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - September 16, 2002 - Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BCSI) today announced that its SG800 Port 80 Security Appliance has received the World-Class Award from Network World magazine. The Blue Coat SG800 was recognized for its exceptional ability to rapidly and intelligently inspect Web-based traffic that is usually passed through firewalls undetected. The World-Class award is given only to select products scoring higher than 4.5 on a 1-to-5 scale.

According to the review conducted by David Newman, a member of the Network World Global Test Alliance, "The performance and ease of use of the Blue Coat SG800 made it worthy of our World-Class Award, combining its own hardened platform with fine-grained control over Web, Secure Sockets Layer and streaming media traffic. The SG800 handles security tasks that firewalls can't, such as blocking executable objects, viruses and other undesirable content on a per-object basis."

The Blue Coat SG800 was tested and evaluated in five key areas: features, performance, ease of use, security, and price/value. The complete results of Network World review of the Blue Coat SG800 Port 80 Security Appliance are available at: http://www.nwfusion.com/reviews/2002/0909rev.html.

"Winning this award from Network World demonstrates our commitment to solving the most prevalent security problem in most enterprise networks today - the open port 80," said Bob Pratt, director of product marketing for Blue Coat Systems. "The Blue Coat SG800 is the industry's first port 80 security appliance that defends against the latest malicious mobile code and Web viruses without compromising network performance."
